Day 2 – Valletta – Citta Umilissima

Breakfast at your hotel. Meet your guide for Full Day Tour of Valetta. Valletta, The Fortress City, Citta’ Umilissima, “a city built by gentlemen for gentlemen” is Malta’s capital city: a living, working city, the administrative and commercial heart of the Islands. Valletta is named after its founder, the respected Grand Master of the Order of St. John, Jean Parisot de la Valette. The magnificent fortress city grew on the arid rock of Mount Sceberras peninsula, which rises steeply from two deep harbours, Marsamxett and Grand Harbour. Started in 1566, Valletta was completed, with its impressive bastions, forts and cathedral, in the astonishingly short time of 15 years, even more remarkable is considering the fact that mechanical tools did not exist at the time and the whole city was built entirely by hand. Valletta has many titles, all recalling its rich historical past. It is the “modern” city built by the Knights of St John; a masterpiece of the Baroque; a European Art City and a World Heritage City. Today, it is one of the most concentrated historic areas in the world. Return to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 3 – Free Day

Day 4 – Three Cities Tour

Breakfast at your hotel. Half day excursion to Vittoriosa, Sengles & Cospicua. Behind the seemingly impenetrable thick walls, flanking Malta’s Grand Harbour, lies a hidden gem known as the Three Cities (Vittoriosa, Cospicua & Senglea) which is surprisingly off the tourist radar. Predominantly a maritime hub, rich in history, this area is reviving itself and the Rolling Geeks are paving the way with their modern take on touring. Later visit Marsaxlokk village. It is located in the south-eastern part of Malta which is famous for its big Sunday fish market and its many decorative “eyed” painted boats called Luzzus. The village has around 3200 inhabitants and in the past, most of the inhabitants worked as fishermen. The name Marsaxlokk comes from the word “marsa” which means port and the word “xlokk” which means south in Maltese. Marsaxlokk has an old history dating back to the ninth century BC. It was in this bay that the first Phoenicians arriving in Malta landed and set up their businesses. It was here that the Turkish fleet anchored during the Great Siege in Malta. Marsaxlokk’s hill of Tas-Silg was used as a religious site and still contains remains of megalithic temples of the Tarxien phase. There were also Bronze Age tools found on the hill. Return to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 5 – Gozo

Breakfast at your hotel. Meet your guide for a full day visit to Gozo. They say that those who have never been to the Maltese Islands cannot perhaps fully appreciate what drew Ulysses here apart from the alluring nymph Calypso – for a seven-year hiatus. The island of Calypso which Homer referred to in his epic The Odyssey has been identified as Malta’s sister island, Gozo. However, it was not only Homer who was captivated by the Island. More recently, Scottish-born comedian Billy Connolly bought a traditional farmhouse on Gozo and has made it his happy home. Gozo’s colours and flavours are brought out by the radiant skies above it and the blue sea which surrounds its spectacular coast, which is simply waiting to be discovered. Few destinations radiate the warm, magical charm of Gozo. Even fewer can effortlessly blend work with pleasure, in a setting which is peaceful and intriguing at once! Return to your hotel for overnight stay.

Day 6 – Mdina

Breakfast at your hotel. Today you will visit the city of Mdina. The history of Mdina traces back more than 4000 years. Lamp lit by night and referred to as “the silent city”, Mdina is fascinating to visit for its timeless atmosphere as well as its cultural and religious treasures. Impressive palaces line its narrow, shady streets. Mdina is one of Europe’s finest examples of an ancient walled city and extraordinary in its mix of medieval and Baroque architecture. Return to your hotel for overnight stay.
