Begin your 2 Country History Tour – France & Germany with a Guided Tour of Heidelberg Castle, overlooking the Neckar River in a city renowned for its romantic charm, historic architecture and status as home to Germany’s oldest university. Continue to Strasbourg where you will visit the magnificent Cathedral de Notre Dame, climbing the spiral staircase for panoramic views across the city, the Vosges and the Black Forest. You will also enjoy a Guided Tour of the European Parliament, including the impressive Plenary Chamber, before discovering Strasbourg’s fascinating and sometimes turbulent past on a Boat Cruise through its three iconic districts.

The historical journey continues with a visit to Natzweiler-Struthof, the only former concentration camp on French soil, followed by the Palais de l’Europe, seat of the Council of Europe since 1977. Explore Strasbourg’s History Museum, charting the city’s past from prehistoric times to post-World War II, before concluding your trip with a visit to the Maginot Line, the vast system of French defensive fortifications built before the Second World War. Day 1: Flight & Guided Tour of Heidelberg Castle

Meet your GTI Travel representative at agreed check-in area at Dublin Airport 

Board your flight and then meet your coach for a Guided Tour of Heidelberg Castle en route to Strasbourg. Located on the Neckar River, Heidelberg – the picturesque city in southwestern Germany is renowned for its romantic ambience, its historic castle and for being the home of Germany’s oldest university 

Evening meal and check into your hotel for overnight stay

 

Day 2: Strasbourg Cathedral de Notre Dame, Guided Tour of the European Parliament & Strasbourg Boat Cruise

Breakfast at your hotel then visit Strasbourg’s Cathedral de Notre Dame then climb the spiral staircase to discover the panoramic view of Strasbourg and on a clear day as far as the Vosges and the Black Forest in Germany 

Enjoy a fascinating Guided Tour of the European Parliament including the Plenary Chamber 

Then learn about Strasbourg’s often turbulent history on a Boat Cruise covering the city’s 3 iconic districts then return to your hotel for evening meal & overnight stay 

Day 3: Natzweiler Struthof, Palace of Europe & Strasbourg History Museum

Breakfast at your hotel before transferring to  the former concentration camp Natzweiler Struthof – the only structure of its type on French soil 

Visit the Palace of Europe Palais de l’Europe which has served as the seat of the Council of Europe since 1977 

Visit Strasbourg’s History Museum to find out about its history from prehistoric times to post WWII 

Evening meal and check into your hotel for overnight stay 

Day 4: Maginot Line & Flight home

Breakfast & check out of your hotel then visit the Maginot Line – the French defensive fortification built along the border with Germany and Italy before World War II to deter German invasion 

Transfer to airport for your flight home

As your travel provider, we aim to give you all of the essential information about your holiday before you agree to any contract. Information such as:

  • Where you are going and for how long
  • The costs involved for the holiday itself and payment schedule (if this applies), as well as any tax or compulsory charges
  • The mode of transport – this detail includes times, dates and places of departure and return
  • Where and what your accommodation is (for example, hotel, guesthouse), and how it complies with the law of the EU Member State in question
  • Cancellation details (for example, where a minimum take up is needed for a package holiday to come into being in the first place)
  • The itinerary of any excursions included
  • Any special or exceptional requirements, which you asked for and you and other parties to the contract have accepted
  • The complaints procedure to follow if we, as the travel organiser, do not carry out as part of our contract

As this is an organised school tour, all relevant flight information will become available through your dedicated group/tour leader. Additional information will be detailed in your dedicated login area. Once the tour has been confirmed every person (on that tour) will be sent their own specific link to login to the GTI Tour Portal where you can access additional relevant information and pay for the trip.
