WW1 The Platoon Experience History School Tour - In Flanders Field Museum, Menin Gate, Tyne Cot Cemetery and much more..

Begin your journey in Ypres with a visit to the In Flanders Field Museum, which brings to life the experiences and consequences of the Great War. In the evening, attend the moving Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate, a nightly tribute to the fallen soldiers, before settling into your accommodation.

The highlight of this tour is the Platoon Experience, where students dress in authentic 1917 uniforms, carry replica equipment and rifles, and march in the footsteps of WWI soldiers to Tyne Cot Cemetery. Here, they enjoy a traditional Hot Tommy Tucker dinner, before taking a guided tour of the cemetery. The itinerary continues with visits to Essex Farm Cemetery, where John McCrae wrote In Flanders Field, and the Sanctuary Wood Museum (Hill 62) with its preserved trench layouts. Students will also reflect at the Island of Ireland Peace Park before ending at the Hooge Crater Museum, which holds an exceptional collection of WWI artefacts. This unforgettable experience offers a unique and personal perspective on the First World War.

Very easy and efficient to use. Staff were excellent, accommodating attentive to the needs of our group tour. Aideen helped us with our tour to Italy and she made the experience easy for me as a group tour leader. She also checked up on me and the group multiple times. Would definitely use again.

GTI were excellent as a group tour for our school. Their information packs were so useful and kept everything together in one place making leading the group so much easier. Once we understood their process of organizing the tour, we found it very straightforward. The best part is that they allow parents to pay for the trip in incremental amounts and also it is done via a payment link which means we don’t have to gather and count money in school. Overall we had a very positive... Read More

Coach – Modern, very clean and comfortable… The driver (Ismael) was amazing: he took the scenic routes on several occasions so we could see things which were not included in our... Read More
